In search of the meaning of death, she'll find the meaning of life. The Ceruleans: mere mortals infused with the power over life and death. Five books; one question: If the might of the heavens were in your hands, would you be sinner or saint? Seventeen-year-old Scarlett Blake is haunted by death.
Her estranged sister has made the ultimate dramatic exit. Running away from school, joining a surfing fraternity, partying hard: that sounds like Sienna. But suicide? It makes no sense. Following in her sister's footsteps, Scarlett comes to the island cove of Twycombe, Devon, with grand plans to uncover the truth. Alone. But she hasn't reckoned on meeting two boys who are determined to help her. Luke: the blue-eyed surfer who'll see the real Scarlett, who'll change her, who'll save her. And Jude: the elusive drifter who had a knack of turning up whenever Scarlett's in need.
As Scarlett's quest for the truth unravels, so too does her grip on reality as she's always known it. Because there's something strange going on in this little cove. A dead magpie circles the skies. A dead dear watches from the undergrowth. Hands grow with light. Warmth. Power. What transpires is a summer of discovery. Of what it means to conquer fear. To fall in love. To choose life. To choose death. To believe the impossible.

First off, I would like to send out a huge thanks to Megan Tayte, I got an email from her asking me to review Death Wish. She was awesome and sent me everything I needed for this review, and it was a pleasure to work with her! This was the first book I have ever read which was not only self published *awesome!* but that was not written by an American or Australian author which was really fun! The accents really came to life for me with all of the fun words which I (American) don't use on a regular basis. Getting into the base of the story a bit, I loved the setting and how flawlessly it was described. It immersed me into the story like nothing before. The story was filled with body and incredible voice. It led a dash of mystery throughout its entirety which was a great indicator to the end of the book and the future novels!
I loved all of the characters, especially Scarlett. She was so full of adventure and mystery. Getting to see her unravel her feelings through the book was awesome, yet she never seamed to to take on the classic "I'm helpless" routine. To me she grew from all of the events that lead up to the final big boom at the end. Which was really refreshing! She was so determined in everything she went out to do which gave the perception of a very head strong personality.
I loved Luke, SO MUCH. He was the perfect vision of how a boyfriend should act. He was so kind and considerate, but at the same time he was not afraid to speak his mind and be there when help was needed. At times some mystery as to how he knew someone and what exactly was going on was thrown in, which was great because as the story was told from Scarlett's POV (point of view) we never really find out what that mystery is.
Jude was like a huge mass of hot guy!, and dangerous? So I was always a bit nervous when Megan Tayte decided to toss him in. I was never quite sure if I should really like him or really hate him until the last chapter. All of the strangeness seamed to follow him and create a eerie shadow with him, creepy? Yes. Mixed feelings? Absolutely.
All in all, I loved the book, it was executed flawlessly and had me on the edge of my seat for a good chunk of the book, especially the end. OH MY. That ending nearly killed me. Until I get to the second book and have to accept it, I am perfectly content sitting in my puddle of tears and denial. (LOL) When "The Kiss happened" I swear it had to be the cheesiest but at the same time, the cutest thing ever, and I loved it. I cant wait to read the second book!
Favorite quote(s);
"You ill?" he asked.
I shook my head.
"Crazy?"
I smiled. " A little, perhaps."
"Scary crazy or fun crazy?"
I thought about it, "Fun crazy."

I sat on the floor in the dark looking at my hands and teetering on the edge of scary crazy.
